서당에서 놀다Play at the Seodang
遊書堂Youseodang, the school where learning is play.
옛 서당에서,
오늘의 유서당으로From the old seodang to Youseodang today
옛날 한국의 아이들은 서당에서 글을 배웠습니다.Long ago, Korean children learned to read and write at a seodang, a traditional village school.
마을마다 하나씩 있던, 지금으로 치면 초·중등학교. 훈장님 앞에 둘러앉아 소리 내어 읽고, 외우고, 자라난 곳이지요.Found in villages across Korea, a seodang was much like today’s elementary or middle school. Children sat together before the hunjang, reading aloud, memorizing, and growing up together.
유서당(遊書堂)은 거기에 글자 하나를 더 얹었습니다.Youseodang (遊書堂) adds one more character to that tradition.
놀면서 배우는 서당. 이야기를 읽는 대신 이야기 속으로 들어가고, 단어를 외우는 대신 그 말이 필요한 순간을 살아보는 곳. 옛날 서당에서 아이들이 목청껏 글을 읽었듯, 여기서도 한국어는 소리 내어, 몸으로, 함께 배웁니다.A seodang where learning happens through play. Instead of only reading a story, learners step inside it. Instead of memorizing words, they live through moments when those words are needed. Just as children once read aloud with full voices at the seodang, Korean is learned here by speaking, moving, and playing together.
문법책이 알려주지 않는 것들이 있어요. 그 말을 언제 쓰는지, 어떤 얼굴로 하는지, 왜 그렇게 말하는지. 그건 이야기 안에 있고, 이야기는 함께 놀 때 살아납니다.Some things cannot be learned from a grammar book: when to use an expression, what face to make, and why it is spoken that way. Those things live inside stories, and stories come alive when we play together.
